Blake's 4 Months Old

This cutie is 4 months old now!! Yesterday we went to the doctor for his 4 month appointment and he weighed 16lbs and 9oz and was 26 3/4 inches long. Blake lost some weight after being sick last week and was weighed in this past Monday at 16lbs even. Well since Monday he has gotten his appetite back in full swing and gained 9oz in 5 days! Crazy kid! He is 92nd percentile in weight and great than 95th percentile in height and head circumference.

Blake is still a pretty fussy baby. But I feel like he has changed his manner of being fussy. Prior I felt like had colic and stomach issues. But in the last 3 weeks or so I feel like its becoming more of a behavioral thing. He just isn't content very long. He really has about a 20 min window where is content and then he's over it. Whether its on the floor, in the swing, etc. And obviously thats very frustrating for us.

He's also decided that he likes mommy the most. If Kevin holds him or tries to feed him a bottle or anything, he'll scream bloody murder. If I'm gone for 45 mins from the house and Kevin watches him, he'll cry the entire time I'm gone and then the minute I get home and take him, he's fine. Ugh! After talking to the doctor yesterday, she says thats a personality and temperament issue. Great.

Blake was suppose to start school last week, but he was in the hospital, so he's been once this week, but I'm hoping that will help him start to get better. Although I feel so bad leaving him with the sitter afraid he's going to cry the entire time.

This has definitely been the hardest 4 months of my life. Its exhausting. But seeing his sweet personality starting to come out some makes it all worth it.

**He's starting to take bottles now that he's in school of pumped breast milk. 4-6oz a bottle.

**He's lasting longer with tummy time and can roll over front to back. But not consistently.

**He loves bath time, until he gets out. Then he screams bloody murder.

**He loves watching his brother.

**Laughs when we play peek-a-boo.

**Loves sitting in moms lap while watching dad and brother play.

**Kicking up a storm lately.

**Likes pulling things up to his mouth

**sucking on fists some

**Has slept up to 9 hours before, but usually wakes up a time or two in between :(

**Loving Sophia the giraffe the last two weeks.

Pneumonia- Blake

Well last week was pretty rough. You see Blake was diagnosed with RSV in late January. Since then he has had a lingering cough and congestion (totally normal). Well on Friday, February 27th Blake started showing more symptoms of RSV and ended up getting and ended up getting a fever that night. So on Saturday we took him to our pediatricians urgent care they have on Saturdays.  She thought he seemed ok, but did have a small ear infection. The rest of Saturday and Sunday he didn't have a fever anymore and started to see like he felt better. Then Sunday around 5:30, I tried to give him a pumped bottle and he just didn't seem interested in eating. I tried nursing. Not interested. Ok, happens sometimes. Well then bedtime came and he was interested again. During the night I tried to nurse him and when he would eat, he would just throw it all up. During the night Sunday/Monday he got a fever as high as 102.9. So back to the doctor we went on Monday. Monday was a bad day. He was throwing up anything I tried to get him to eat. He was pretty much inconsolable. Unless he was sleeping, he was screaming crying.

At the doctor they could tell he didn't look good. Mostly I was worried because he hadn't eaten in almost 20 hours really. They checked him out and did tests and really couldn't figure out what was going on with him. But he wasn't eating and he was not a happy camper. So she told me if he didn't start eating that afternoon I was going to have to take him to the Childrens ER to get hooked up to IV fluids.

To make matters worse. Kevin was headed to the airport while I was at the doctors to head out of town to Portland for work. He didn't know whether to go or stay. It was a big deal for him to go and he needed to go. But he also wasn't going to go if we had to take Blake to the ER. We just didn't know yet if it was going to come to that. After much going back and forth, Kevin was at the gate at the airport and decided not to get on the plane and headed back home. I meanwhile went and picked Carter up from school. We got home and I tried to feed Blake again and no luck. So off to the ER we went.

Thankfully there is a new Childrens ER at North Austin Medical Center (Austin friends, you must go there)! And there was no one there so we got right back. We went back and got check out. After finally doing a chest x-ray they determined he has pneumonia. Not something you want to hear about your almost 4 month old. They said he was going to be admitted to the hospital for at least a couple of days. Our friends, Sarah and Chad were amazing and literally got off their flight back into town and came by the hospital to take Carter home and put him to bed until my mom got here from Dallas.

We were admitted to the hospital on Monday night and weren't discharged until Thursday late morning. It was rough. I broke down Monday night because I was scared for my son. He's so young and helpless, but I knew he could get through it. My mom took Carter back to Dallas with her on Tuesday and Kevin and I stayed in the hospital with Blake. We only had a single bed and chair, so we swapped off sleeping on the bed and the chair. Fun times. Not much sleep with a child that was so restless and irritable. But anything to be there for Blake.

On top of all this, that coming weekend, Kevin's sister Heather was getting married and we were suppose to be heading to Dallas that Thursday. So once we were discharged Thursday, we came home for maybe 2 hours and turned around headed up there.

We had some ups and downs after the hospital but the biggest issue was to keep Blake eating and we had a hard time with that at first. But thankfully he pulled through. He's a tough boy and it was so great once he started to feel better to see that sweet smile of his. It made me one thankful momma.

God is good. We thank everyone that was thinking and praying for Blake. It meant so much. Monday we had a follow up appt and our pediatrician said Blake looked like a completely different baby than he was a week ago.

Blake's 3 Months Old

This cutie is now 3 Months Old!!

**Still seems to have colic, acid reflux, and tummy issues

**Still cries alot, but slowly getting better. When he gets upset it just escalates fast and he gets pretty worked up.

**We are improving at night. He goes to bed around 8-8:15pm, and usually wakes up between 1:30-2:30am and then between 4-6:30. I hold off feeding him until the later time. If we could just cut out the first one, we"ll be doing good. Still tired!

*Blake loves bath time, but HATES getting out. Screams and screams once he's out and we're getting clothes back on him.

*He loves watching his brother.

*Coos and talks alot more; smiles at us when we get close and talk with him.

*Still only likes to be in the car when its moving, otherwise, he isn't happy.

*He's doing better in his nap nanny. I'll push him around in it to like the kitchen and he sits in it and watches me.

*Still loves to be held.

*2 weeks ago he was diagnosed with RSV. NOT FUN. Honestly it was my biggest fear that he would eventually get it. THANKFULLY, it wasn't too severe. Mostly congestion, coughing and sneezing.

*Still likes being on his mat and playing.

*He really is such a cute boy and his sweet personality is starting to come out when he isn't crying and upset. We just got to get him to calm down easier when he gets upset!!

*When we went to the doctor last week he was 15lbs 11oz. Growing, growing, growing!

Blake's 2 Months Old

Well this past Sunday, our little man turned 2 months old!!!

Yesterday we went to the doctor and this little chunk weighs 14 lbs 11oz!!! And he's 25 1/4 inches long!! 90th percentile and up!!

I'll be honest, life is a bit harder with 2 kids. And especially with a baby that the doctors think has acid reflux, colic, and tummy issues! (ALL 3!!!) So thats been hard. He sleeps about a 5 hour stretch at night for the past week. Which is a big progress from before. But he's always waking up because his tummy is hurting him. Poor thing. He cries a lot. A lot. Sometime I can get it under control, something we can't. Colic. Not fun. Sometime he's really fussy trying to eat. Acid reflux. Yuck.

So all that on top of having a normal 2 year old that throw tantrums and wants the attention over his brother. Fun times at our house.

The doctor said things should start looking better over the next few months. Most of it is something he'll outgrow. Just feel bad for the poor baby.

But the sweet boy is more alert these days. He's starting cooing and smiling at us. He definitely likes to snuggle on the couch or be held while we walk around. He likes his swing sometimes. Mostly when he's tired. He also like laying on his little mat and kicking and hitting the toys that hang down.

He isn't a huge fan of his nap nanny or his boppy seat. Honestly he'd rather just lay on the floor. But he has to be in a good mood for that, otherwise he wants to be held. He is starting to really like bath time too. He likes riding in the car, but only if the car is moving.

We dont venture out too much yet with him since flu season is in full effect. Really paranoid about him getting sick, so we have been hermit crabs as a family.

But we are slowly getting the hang of all this. We are tired, but this too shall pass!!
