Blake's Birth Story

Things went pretty smoothly for Blake's birth. We had a scheduled c-section since I had a c-section before and since Blake was estimated to be big!! I was pretty miserable the last bit as I was HUGE. I guess thats what happens when you are 5'2'' carrying around an almost 10lb baby. Blake seemed to sit sooo low too, so it made it double uncomfortable. I was ready for him to come early, but he didn't. 

My c-section was schedule for 7am on November 11th. My family came in and were able to watch Carter so we headed up that morning around 5am to the hospital. I went to the pre-op area and got ready. At one point they gave me something through my IV and I started to feel pretty sick and nauseous. Finally after a bit I started to feel better. We finally got wheeled back to the operating room and I got my spinal block put in and everything really went well. Kevin finally came back there with me and they got the show started.

Within a few minutes, Blake arrived as the doctor said, " Man we got a big one, thank God for c-sections." haha, so true! The first thing I remember is Kevin saying he looked just like Carter. Next they took Blake to get initially cleaned up and take his vitals and what not. I really enjoyed this time that I actually could see them doing all that from where I was laying on the table. Last time they were in a corner of the room and I couldn't see anything.

Also it was great this time because instead of sending Kevin and the baby off to the nursery to get his first bath, they did it in post-op where I went to recover. So I got to see everything. It was WONDERFUL!! I didn't feel all alone and I got to be right beside my baby. My family didn't enjoy it as much because they didn't get to see the bath through the window, but hey lets be real I'm more important, haha.

I must say while I was in post-op I finally was allowed a popsicle after not having any food since the night before. I must say that was the greatest popsicle in the world!! I had two even!! haha

After being in post-op for the designated amount of time I finally got to head to our postpartum room. My parents and my sister were there waiting. I would like to think it was to see me, but at last it was obviously to finally catch a glimpse of baby Blake.

I must say my recovering after the c-section was much better this time around than last time. THANK GOD! No major issues in the hospital other than Blake losing more weight than they would have liked. So we had to supplement with formula until my milk came in, but that was just for a few days thankfully. 

Carter didn't know what to think when he first met Blake. He didn't want to hold him and didn't really acknowledge him. But he's coming around.

We've had some tiring time since his birth, but honestly I couldn't have asked for a better birth experience this time around. It really did go pretty smoothly!! And now we have a sweet Blake here!!

Blake's One Month Old

Sorry for the lack of posts over the last month, well really last year!! In my silence, we had a BABY!! I want to be good at keeping the blog going to document Blake's milestones like I have Carters. So I'll back track soon and get caught up on everything, but in the meantime...


Let me introduce you to...

Blake Porter Harwood

He is now 1 month old!!

Ohhhh how time flies...

As of today, he is 11lbs 13oz, and 23 inches long. Both in the 95 percentile!! Hello big baby!!

The crazy thing is, Blake was born at 9lbs 15oz, but lost alot of weight the first week. By the time he was 2 weeks old he was back up to 9lbs 12oz. So in two weeks he's gained 2lbs.

Blake is a sweetheart but is very different from his brother so far. Carter honestly was like the EASIEST baby. Never cried much, slept long stretches at night by 4 weeks, didn't really have fussy periods. I mean we had it EASY. Well Blake cries alot, has some lungs on him. He has acid reflux, so we have projectile vomiting a lot. Tummy issues, screaming from it hurting. So he's not sleeping more than 3 hours at night because of the discomfort. Blake loves to be held too, where Carter was content to be put anywhere. Needless to say, we are tired and exhausted and its like having a first child all over again. But we are making it. 

Having 2 kids is also an adjustment. This is my first week by myself with both boys when Carter isn't at school 3 times a week. So far it hasn't been terrible. There have been some meltdowns from the 2 year old, but whats new, haha. And Carter is coming around on Blake. He just ignored him at first, but is doing better.

Lately August 2014

4th of July Fun!

This year we had a fun 4th of July. Carter is now starting to be old enough to be excited about different fun things. So this year we had a full day of fun planned for the 4th of July. That morning we went to the Cedar Park 4th of July parade. Carter loves trucks and cars, so he enjoyed watching them go by!

Afterwards we hit up the Brushy Creek splash pad for the first time and man did Carter have fun with dad!! Only problem is he slipped and fell and hit his head, so Kevin made him hold his hand the rest of the time and he wasn't happy!!

Then that evening we decided to try and keep Carter up and we went to the Cedar Park 4th of July fireworks. They had a lot of activities there at the park. We walked around and Carter got to see a firetruck and was super excited. We eventually set up camp with chairs and a blanket and waited for the fireworks to begin. We kept telling Carter about the fireworks, but I think he confused fireworks with firetruck. He was a little scared at first and kept saying "NO, truck." But then a bunch of people started clapping during parts of the show so he got excited and clapped with them.

He was a trooper and we are excited about finally getting to do fun things with him that he enjoys!! Look forward to many more years.
